Overview
This guide will walk through how to enable 2-step authentication (Also known as 2FA and MFA) on a Google Account.
You will need:
- Your Google account email address & password
- Your mobile phone
- Google Authenticator app installed on your mobile phone (iOS | Android)
Added your cell phone as a recovery phone
Open a new tab and go to https://myaccount.google.com/security
If asked, sign in with your Work email address & Password
If you don't already have a Recovery phone added, click Recovery Phone. Otherwise, move on to the next section.
Click Add recovery phone
Enter your Cell Phone number
Click Next
Confirm your number is correct
Click Save
Go back
Setting up 2-Step Authentication
Go to https://myaccount.google.com/security
If asked, sign in with your Work email address & Password
Click 2-Step Verification
Click Add authenticator App
Click Setup Authenticator
Open the Google Authenticator app on your phone, then tap the +
Choose Scan a QR code
If requested, allow access to your camera
Point your camera at the QR code on your computer screen until you see a code window
Click next
Enter the code on your phone's Google Authenticator app
Click Verify
Click Turn on
Click Turn on 2-Step Verification
You should get a confirmation, click Done
